Because of the main character, the Dollmaker treasure in American literature

The protagonist in this story is not depicted accurately in cover art. Otherwise an unwell known treasure in American literature. Strong main character is extremely capable and does what she needs to do in order to save infant Amos. Even rides horse to a highway and has to get ride to hospital by reluctant low ranking military officers. Main character uses supplies at hospital to save Amos. Read this favorite book at college library will reread this book because I absolutely loved it so much. As an author I feel closer to main characters such as the one in the Dollmaker than most adults who are only focused on themselves. I see examples like in the main character of the Dollmaker as the kind of friends I really should have in the world.

This is an American classic. It is depressing but spell-binding. Arnow's writing is outstanding. The copy I bought second-hand on-line had such small print I couldn't read it, so I checked it out of the library. I found out my friend, a sociology professor at the College of William and Mary, had required it for her class. The book was published in the late 1950's, right after World War II. I first heard about it at Northern Kentucky University in the 1970's. A movie was made with Jane Fonda as the heroin, but of course, the film could not reflect the power of the written word.
